What started out in 2009 as a humble new beginning for shop owner Orli Levy, Short and Sweet Bakeshop has become something of a behemoth in the Toronto baking world.

With the first location specializing in only cupcakes, and then gradually introducing sweet new treats such as their decadently huge Sammie's; (think a healthy serving of sweet buttercream sandwiched between two hand-sized, freshly baked cookies), along with the addition of their special-order cakes and customs, you'd think Short and Sweet Cupcakes was hitting their stride. Their clientele on Avenue Road is strong, and they've carved out a nice niche for themselves. But that wasn't quite enough. They wanted to go bigger, and in turn, went even better (as if that was possible?)

In late December, just as the winter blues came upon Toronto in full force, the newly minted sister-shop to Short and Sweet Cupcakes, Short and Sweet Bakeshop, opened their doors in Davisville, and brought back a little bit of that sweetness we were missing during these dreadful winter months.

With new cupcake flavours, such as the 'Dream Team', a vanilla cupcake filled with caramel and chocolate ganache, topped with chunks of Kit Kat, and an additional array of baked goods, such as freshly baked in-house pies, tart's and many other sweet and savouries, Short and Sweet is taking their love of all things doughy and delicious to new heights.

The new Yonge St. shop not only offers fan favourites, such as the 7-layer 'everything-but-the-kitchen-sink' monster bars (think lots of chocolate, coconut, Kit Kat, Oreo, and pretty much everything in between), but it offers up a delicious new drink menu that is changing with the seasons. The Loco Hot Cocoa launched in conjunction with the opening, and it was love at first sight. People lined up to get their hands on either the Oreo, Salted Caramel, or Smores hot chocolates, which were rimmed with lots of chocolate-y goodness, and filled with chunks of your favourite cupcakes, to keep them warm this winter. But a little birdie tells us that although they won't be offering the Loco Cocoa's anymore, something a little colder and A LOT tastier is coming this summer (shh! don't say I said anything!)

Bright white walls are covered with cheeky illustrations, created by one of Short and Sweet's long-time employees, along with a massive, Insta-PERFECT neon sign that reads 'Buttercream Dreams." It's no secret that this location is catering to a bigger, trendier crowd with an appetite for all things cupcakes, cakes and deliciousness.

If you want to satisfy your sweet-tooth with a menu that's always offering exciting new things, or if you just want to settle down with a classic Short and Sweet cupcake and a book, Short and Sweet Bakeshop has got you covered (in buttercream.)

Happy eating, and sweet #ButtercreamDreams!
